Creating Boundaries
Learn how to create a new boundary
Boundaries can be used for a number of purposes. At the simplest level, boundaries can be used to indicate the size or extent an inspection relates to. More advanced uses may for example include indicating an area impacted by weeds, or the extent of spraying undertaken to manage a particular weed species identified. Boundaries can be created using the Covram mobile app or Covram web app.
Using the Covram mobile app
To create a new boundary follow the steps below:
- Open the Covram mobile app on your device. A map should appear with a blue marker indicating your current location. If you can see a list of projects, tap on any project to enter the map view.
- Tap the
+ Add
button in the bottom right corner. - To enable drawing mode tap the
Boundary
button from the options which appear. A message should appear at the top of the screen toTap the map to create a boundary
. - Tap the map where you would like to start the boundary. A small box should appear.
- Tap the map again to add another corner of the boundary. A line will appear joining the two points, with a small circle in the centre of the line.
- Repeat this process to add edges to the boundary. To adjust the shape of the boundary drag the boxes, or to create a new corner drag the small circle shown on each connecting line.
- When you are satisfied with the shape of the boundary tap the
Save
button in the bottom right corner of the screen. - The small boxes, circles and connecting lines should disappear, and you will be left with a solid outline and shaded shape. The site boundary has been successfully saved.
Using the Covram web app
To create a new boundary follow the steps below:
- Sign in to the Covram web app in your web browser using your laptop or desktop computer and your registered email and password. This should open the Projects page.
- Click on any existing project from the sidebar menu at the left of the screen. A number of options should appear below the project name. Click the
Edit Boundaries
option. - A map should appear centred on your current location. Use your mouse to move to the area of the map where you would like to add a boundary (you may need to zoom in). Click the
Draw Polygons
button - this is the first option in the toolbar located in the top left of the map screen. - Once the
Draw Polygons
button is clicked, the mouse icon will change into a crosshair type icon, and text will appear under the mouse prompting the user toClick to place first vertex
. - Click the mouse where you would like to place the first corner of the boundary. A small circle will be added to the map.
- Click the mouse again to add another corner to the boundary. Another small circle will be added to the map, with a solid line connecting the two points.
- Repeat this process of adding corners until you are satisfied with the shape of the boundary created. To complete the boundary click on the first corner added. Once the boundary is completed, the small circles will disappear and a solid outline and shaded shape will be created.
- Click on the
Save Changes
button to save the boundary created.If you would like to make further changes after you have created the boundary click theEdit Layers
button (the second option in the toolbar located in the top left of the map screen). WhenEdit Layers
is clicked, large circles will appear at the corners of each boundary, and smaller circles will appear in the centre of each connecting boundary edge. To move the location of a corner, click and drag the larger circle. To add a new corner to the boundary, click and drag the smaller circles.
