Getting details from the map

Learn how to click or tap the map to see the details behind an overlay

When an overlay is switched on, you can click the map (or tap it, in the Covram Field App) to see the information the overlay holds for that location. For example, you can find out which vegetation type is mapped at a site, or which fire burnt there and when.

See the details

  1. Switch on the overlays you are interested in. See basemaps and overlays.
  2. Click the map at the location you want to know about. In the Covram Field App, tap it.
  3. The details appear for each overlay that is switched on, showing the information held for that location. In the Covram Dashboard a card for each overlay appears in the bottom left corner of the map. In the Covram Field App a panel opens at the bottom of the screen with a section for each overlay.

Each card or section names its overlay. If you have several overlays on, you will see several.

What the details show

The details depend on the overlay. For example:

  • Vegetation Type (EVC Group) shows the vegetation class name, its group and subgroup, the area in hectares and its conservation status.
  • Threatened Flora Sightings and Threatened Fauna Sightings in Victoria show the common and scientific name, the species' status under Victorian and Commonwealth listings, the year it was recorded and the count.
  • Fire History in Victoria shows the fire's name, type, cause, start date, area and the lead agency.
  • Wetlands in Victoria shows the wetland's name, type, area, water regime, water source and dominant vegetation.
  • Aquatic Ecosystems (ANAE) shows the ecosystem's ANAE type, the kind of system it belongs to (such as riverine, palustrine or floodplain), its water source and water regime, its vegetation, its area in hectares and the state.

If the details couldn't load

In the Covram Dashboard a card says Could not load followed by the name of the data. In the Covram Field App the section says Unable to load followed by the overlay's name and data. Either one means the data provider didn't respond. Click the location again, or try later. Details are loaded from the provider, so they need a connection. The exception is Victorian vegetation types in a project you have downloaded for offline use.

Overlays without details

In the Covram Field App, every overlay shows details when you tap except Boundaries & Places.

On the Covram Dashboard, Boundaries & Places, NSW Land Tenure and NSW NPWS Managed Land don't show details when you click.
